It was quite appropriate that our rental car license plate is a Nevada plate, as our first stop (and likely the longest drive we&#8217;ll take for the entire trip) was Las Vegas:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-284\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/2014-06-28-06.21.29-HDR-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Rental car\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" \/><br \/>\nOur rental car is super nice!<br \/>\nThe drive was uneventful and quite nice overall. Jeffrey drove the whole way, despite my offering to take over, and I was able to enjoy a little nap.<br \/>\nWe stopped in Mojave for lunch, at a place called Stoken Donuts and Deli, which Jeffrey described as &#8220;cute as heck.&#8221; He had a hot dog with pulled pork, I had a grilled sandwich with turkey, cheese, and mustard.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-285\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/2014-06-28-11.54.04-HDR-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Stoken Donuts and Deli\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" \/><br \/>\nDelicious! We didn&#8217;t leave enough room for donuts, sadly.<br \/>\nThe last stretch of drive into Vegas was a lot of desert, unsurprisingly:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/2014-06-28-14.31.44.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-286\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/2014-06-28-14.31.44-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Mojave Desert\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" \/><\/a>We arrived at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bellagio.com\/\">Bellagio<\/a> without a hitch. Beautiful hotel with that famous ceiling:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-287\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/2014-06-28-18.04.15-HDR-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Bellagio ceiling\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" \/><br \/>\nWe lounged by the pool and swam for a bit, indulged in some ridiculous blended alcohol beverages from the pool bar, walked around the hotel, then went to dinner at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellagio.com\/restaurants\/picasso.aspx\">Picasso<\/a>, which was fantastic.<br \/>\nA great first day!<br \/>\nHours driven: 8.5<br \/>\nDay 1 playlist:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jeffrey&#8217;s 3-5 star iTunes playlist (highlight: Fatboy Slim&#8217;s &#8220;Rockafeller Skank&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>David Sedaris&#8217; &#8216;We Are Engulfed in Flames&#8217; (audiobook)<\/li>\n<li>Kumail Nanjiani&#8217;s &#8216;Beta Male&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>Patton Oswalt&#8217;s &#8216;Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a fitful night of sleep for both us (too much excitement), we arose at 5:30am to start our cross country road trip!
