{"id":336,"date":"2014-07-04T21:58:16","date_gmt":"2014-07-04T21:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/?p=336"},"modified":"2014-07-04T21:58:16","modified_gmt":"2014-07-04T21:58:16","slug":"day-5-one-springfield-down-one-to-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/day-5-one-springfield-down-one-to-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 5: One Springfield down, two to go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We got an early start with the usual continental breakfast at our Oklahoma City hotel, and hit the road.<br \/>\nWhen lunch rolled around, we found ourselves in Springfield, Missouri, a humble town that just so happened to have some excellent cajun food at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/the-big-easy-springfield\">Big Easy Grill<\/a>. Anna had jambalaya, I had a fried shrimp po&#8217;boy. What followed was a spirited discussion about fountain drinks and how much Missourians seem to love them.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-348\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2014-07-02-13.01.43-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Big Easy Grill\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" \/><br \/>\nFinding that we had some time to kill on the road to St. Louis, we decided to go for a little detour along\u00a0a route that promised some river views, but the route was too far from the river to view it. Harumph. At least we know that Missouri&#8217;s countryside is gorgeous.<br \/>\nWe arrived at our first Airbnb room in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soulard,_St._Louis\">Soulard<\/a> neighborhood of St. Louis, and, in addition to the hosts, were greeted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2007\/01\/26\/apple-fanboy-crafts-mac-heaven-in-ultra-mod-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a substantial collection of Macs<\/a>, and an adorable shih tzu who seemed to be\u00a0a seasoned champion at staring contests.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-349\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2014-07-02-17.47.24-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Audrey the dog\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" \/><br \/>\nWith some guidance from our hosts, we walked the Delmar Loop and marveled at its walk of fame, had some unique Mexican-inspired food (like a cheeseburger burrito) at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atomiccowboystl.com\/\">Atomic Cowboy<\/a>, and had a few drinks along with the best pretzel bites ever down the street at <a href=\"http:\/\/sanctuariastl.com\/\">Sanctuaria<\/a>.<br \/>\nWe topped off the night with a bit too much frozen custard at <a href=\"http:\/\/teddrewes.com\/home\/default.aspx\">Ted Drewes<\/a> (so creamy!), and hit the hay.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-350\" src=\"http:\/\/jeffreyandanna.us\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/2014-07-02-21.01.24-HDR-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Frozen custard\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" \/><br \/>\nHours driven: 8<br \/>\nAudio:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson<\/li>\n<li>Mike Birbiglia: Sleepwalk with Me<\/li>\n<li>The usual 3-5 Star stuff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We got an early start with the usual continental breakfast at our Oklahoma City hotel, and hit the road.
